José Guadalupe Posada / 100 años - 100 Years: Jose Guadalupe Posada

This poster (43 × 56 cm) was designed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada. It was hand-printed in silkscreen using two layers: a solid black ink base and a second layer of glossy varnish, creating a striking black-on-black effect that reveals additional detail upon closer inspection.

The visual concept draws inspiration from Posada’s signature engraving style, with a focus on darkness and symbolism. The composition features two of his most iconic works: “La Calavera Garbancera” — visible through the shape of the number 100 — and a fragmented arrangement of “La Calavera Quijotesca,” distributed across the rest of the piece and printed using the varnish layer to generate subtle contrast.

The poster was presented during the closing lecture, “From Visual to Significant: 100 Years of Posada,” at the Third Student Colloquium on Anthropology and Visual Semiotics held at the Del Carmen Museum in Mexico City. The event was organized by CONACULTA, INAH, and AMESVE.

This project holds deep personal significance for me. Creating a tribute to Posada — such a important figure in the formation of Mexican cultural identity — and presenting it in an academic context, inside one of the city’s most iconic museums, was an unforgettable and meaningful milestone in my creative journey.
